Senior Tax Manager
Senior manager role in NJA's newly built mid-market Business Tax & Advisory practice — a standalone tax advisory and compliance business with no audit and no attestation. The practice serves companies with $50M–$500M in revenue across corporate, pass-through, and multi-state structures, and is scaling to 100 people across Business Tax, Transaction Advisory, CFO Advisory, and Specialty Tax divisions. Cross-referral flow from NJA's UHNW personal tax, wealth management, estate planning, and family office practice.
Responsibilities
- Manage and deliver federal and multi-state business tax compliance for corporations, partnerships, S-corps, and complex pass-through structures.
- Lead technical tax planning engagements — entity structuring, ownership transitions, multi-state footprint optimization, and business restructuring.
- Support M&A tax work — tax due diligence, deal structuring analysis, and post-close tax integration (advisory capacity).
- Collaborate with NJA's personal tax and estate planning teams to integrate business-level tax strategy with owner-level wealth outcomes.
- Manage client relationships day-to-day.
- Supervise, review, and develop a team of senior associates and associates.
- Identify planning opportunities within existing client relationships.
- Contribute to specialty tax work including SALT, R&D credits, and other areas.
Required Qualifications
- CPA license required.
- 10+ years of business tax experience, with meaningful time at a public accounting firm.
- Deep technical proficiency in federal corporate tax compliance and planning (C-corps, partnerships, S-corps, complex pass-throughs).
- Multi-state tax compliance experience across a diverse client base.
- Demonstrated ability to manage engagements and deliver without constant oversight.
- Strong client communication skills.
- Collaborative disposition across practice lines.
Preferred Qualifications
- LLM in Taxation or JD with tax concentration.
- Personal tax experience.
- M&A tax experience (due diligence, deal structuring, post-close integration).
- SALT experience (nexus, apportionment, multi-state controversy).
- Financial sponsor experience (PE-backed or sponsor-owned businesses).
- ASC 740 / tax provision experience.
